The Los Angeles Conservancy presents

SPANNING HISTORY: THE BRIDGES OF THE LOS ANGELES RIVER
April 13, 2008  10:00 am – 3:00 pmPhoto by Kevin Break

Join us for a fun-filled day of tours and activities, near four historic bridges (at First, Fourth, Sixth and Seventh Streets) spanning the river between downtown L.A. and Boyle Heights .

The route spans about 2.5 miles, with two sites on each bank of the river. Shuttle buses will run continuously along the route, and we also encourage walking and biking between the sites. Materials and activities will be bilingual (English and Spanish), including a new kids’ guide to the historic river bridges.

Hollywood Escapes author Harry Medved will discuss and illustrate the bridges’ rich history and countless film appearances, from the 1954 sci-fi classic Them! to 2007’s Transformers.

For tickets and more information, please visit the Los Angeles Conservancy’s site at http://www.laconservancy.org/bridges/index.php#mix

FEBRUARY EVENTS

Saturday, February 23, 2008 10:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m.
Malibu Creek State Park • 1925 Las Virgenes Road • Calabasas, California
( Las Virgenes/Malibu Cyn Road , at its intersection with Mulholland)
M*A*S*H FANS UNITE!

Come celebrate the 25th anniversary of the finale of this legendary series at the historic outdoor set!  On February 23rd, join hundreds (and maybe thousands) of your fellow fans at the newly restored set where M*A*S*H was shot for 11 years.

Thousands visit the site of the M*A*S*H film and TV series every year, but on February 23rd, its new look will be unveiled (and the spot will look better than it has in decades). The original tents and buildings were removed when filming ended in 1983, but decades of overgrowth have been cleared away, markers will show where the major tents stood, educational panels will display the layout of the camp, the helipad roadway will be open and the iconic signpost that pointed the way home for the characters has been rebuilt and will stand again at the site.

Bring your friends and your camera for this fun FREE day!

HOW TO GET THERE:

  • FROM THE BEACH :  Take Pacific Coast Highway north / west to Malibu Cyn Road and turn right past Pepperdine University . In the canyon, you'll pass through a tunnel and go through one light ( Piuma Road ). Just before Mulholland Hwy , turn left into Malibu Creek State Park .
  • FROM THE VALLEY : 101 north / west past Calabasas to Las Virgenes Rd. Exit there and head south for several miles. The park entrance is the first right turn after Mulholland Hwy.
  • Parking is $10 per vehicle inside the state park, so carpool with friends.

It's a 35-minute hike to the M*A*S*H set from the parking lot (EZ maps will be handed out at the entry kiosk) over mostly level terrain with some rocky creek bed walking, so bring comfortable shoes, sun protection and water and enjoy. Baby strollers are not recommended.

Come and enjoy this fun day from California State Parks!
